Exochosphaeridium scitulum

Exochosphaendium scitulum Singh, 1971

Holotype: Singh, 1971, pl.57, fig.8
Locus typicus: Peace River area, Canada
Stratum typicum: Middle Albian

Original description: Singh, 1971, p. 346
Central body ovoid with a small elevation at one end marking the apex; apical process equal to other processes in length, but variable in shape (Fig. 58); apical process slightly thicker than other processes and with a trifurcate to bifurcate tip; central body bearing numerous (more than 100), simple, unbranched, hollow, spinose processes; rarely some processes fused to forrn wide membraneous projections and splitting into 2 to 4 pointed spines at their outer ends; bases of the processes expanded, confluent, forming a web-like pattern, and ornamented by very faint, converging striations; aligned processes faintly marking the parallel sides of the cingulum; cingular processes identical to other processes; archeopyle precingular; central body thin walled, smooth, and hyaline.
Size range: Total diameter of the test, including the processes (7 specimens)
54(63)86 Ám. Holotype 86 Ám.
Diameter of the central body (7 specimens) 48(54)65 Ám. Holotype 65 Ám.
Length of the processes (7 specimens) 5(8)12 Ám. Holotype 8 Ám.

Affinities:
Singh, 1971, p. 346-347: Exochosphaeridium scitulum is characterized by the weblike pattern formed by the confluent bases of the spinose processes. Baltisphaeridium spinosum (White) var. deflandrei Lejeune-Carpentier, 1941, resembles E. scitulum, but differs in having smaller body (36 to 49 Ám), longer processes (14 to 21 Ám), more prominent network on the body, and in lacking an archeopyle and cingulum.
