Fibrocysta lappacea (Drugg, 1970) Stover and Evitt, 1978

NOW Ifecysta. Originally Lanternosphaeridium, subsequently Fibrocysta, thirdly (and now) Ifecysta.

Holotype: Drugg, 1970, fig.4A-D
Locus typicus: Dale Country, Alabama, USA
Stratum typicum: Early Eocene

Original description: Drugg, 1970, p. 812-183: Lanternosphaeridium lappaceum
Ellipsoidal tract with a precingular archeopyle. The operculum is almost square in shape (see Fig. 5 D). Endophragm smooth, about 1 Ám thick. Periphragm of a generally fibrous construction (see Figs. 4 B; 5 D), about 2 Ám thick. Tract covered with numerous intratabular short fibrous processes which are closed proximally and distally. The processes below the archeopyle are aligned suggesting a cingulum. Usually antapical and apical fibrous horns are present although one or the other may be missing. These horns can be as long as 30 Ám. The endophragm usually projects outward below the horns. The body dimensions range from 70 to 100 Ám in length, and from 55 to 69 Ám in width. The processes are about 10 to 15 Ám long.

Affinities:
Drugg, 1970, p. 813: Lanternosphaeridium lappaceum
Lanternosphaeridium lappaceum differs from L. bipolare (Cookson and Eisenack) Gocht, 1969, in that the latter has fewer and longer appendages and has a granular surface. Lanternosphaeridium radiatum Morgenroth, differs most notably from L. lappaceum in that it bears processes which are considerably longer.
