Fromea chytra

Fromea chytra (Drugg, 1967) Stover and Evitt, 1978

Originally Palaeostomocystis, subsequently (and now) Fromea.
Holotype: Drugg, 1967, pl.6, fig.12
Locus typicus: Ecarpado Canyon, California, USA
Stratum typicum: Maastrichtian-Danian

Original diagnosis: Drugg, 1967, p.35: Palaeostomocystis chytra
Test small, jug-shaped, with a broad apical aperture bordered by a narrow rim. The wall is from 0.5 to 1.0 Ám thick, finely dotted, the dots apparently representing tiny grana. The dimensions vary from 23 to 28 Ám in length and 20 to 25 Ám in width. The aperture varies from 8 to 13 Ám in diameter. Although only four specimens were recovered, they are so uniform and distinct that a new species seems warranted. Holotype dimensions, 24x20 Ám.

Affinities:
Drugg, 1967, p.35: Palaeostomocystis chytra
This species bears a close resemblance to Fromea amphora Cookson and Eisenack (1958) and reported again in Manum and Cookson (1964). It differs from this genus and species primarily in that it lacks any indication of a girdle. It is also considerably smaller in size.
