Fromea fragilis
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Fromea fragilis (Cookson and Eisenack, 1962b, p.496–497, pl.7, figs.10–11) Stover and Evitt, 1978, p.48. Holotype: Cookson and Eisenack, 1962b, pl.7, fig.11. Originally Palaeostomocystis (Appendix A), subsequently (and now) Fromea. Age: Aptian–Cenomanian.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description (Cookson and Eisenack, 1962b):
Palaeostomocystis fragilis Cookson and Eisenack, new species
Plate 7, figures 10-11
Holotype: Nat. Mus. Vic., no. P21469 (fig. 11).
Age and occurrence: (?)Albian-Aptian: Power House bore at 590 and 640 ft.; Attadale bore at 619 ft. Probably Albian: Wapet's seismic shot hole L8 at 240 ft. (?)Upper Albian-Cenomanian: King Edward Street bore between 265 and 295 ft.; Roberts Street bore between 470 and 490 ft.; Subiaco bore at 358 ft. (dark sample) and 436 ft.; Fremantle Traffic Bridge bore No. 5 at 100 ft. and No. 2 at 168 and 173 ft.
Description: Shell relatively large, longer than broad, with a thin, readily folded and crumpled membrane and a wide, slightly concave opening with an unthickened rim. Surface of wall finely and faintly granular.
Dimensions: Holotype: 82 μ long; 70μ broad.
Range: 82-157 μ x 70-105 μ.
Comments: Palaeostomocystis fragilis bears a superficial resemblance to Fromea amphora Cookson and Eisenack, which is present with it in the Osborne formation. However, it is distinct from Fromea in its larger size and thinner and less rigid wall, and in the absence of both a thickened rim around the opening and an equatorial girdle.
