Fromea laevigata

Fromea? laevigata (Drugg, 1967) Stover and Evitt, 1978

Originally Palaeostomocystis, subsequently Fromea, thirdly (and now) Fromea?.
Sr. homonym of Fromea laevigata (Jiabo, 1978) Lentin and Williams, 1981.
Stover and Evitt, 1978, considered this to be a provisionally accepted species of Fromea.
Holotype: Drugg, 1967, pl.6, fig.14
Paratype: Drugg, 1967
Locus typicus: Escarpado Canyon, California
Stratum typicum: Maastrichtian-Danian

Original diagnosis: Drugg, 1967, p.35: Palaeostomocystis laevigata
Test more or less ellipsoidal, open at one end, closed at the other, the lateral walls slightly outbowed. The test membrane is about 1 Ám thick and is smooth. The membrane thickens around the large terminal aperture in one end of the test producing a rim-like effect. From one to five tiny rimmed "pores" or thin areas may be developed at the other end, although not always present. The ratio of length to width varies from about 1.6 to 2.5. A somewhat shrunken internal sac-like body (cyst?) is rarely present.
Dimensions: Holotype, 55 Ám long, 31 Ám broad; Paratype 60 Ám long, 25 Ám broad; Range, 69 to 27 Ám long; 35 to 22 Ám. wide.

Affinities:
Drugg, 1967, p.35: Palaeostomocystis laevigata
This species differs from Paleostomocystis apiculata Cookson and Eisenack 1960 in the absence of spinules, and to some extent in outline as well since both sides of the upper Moreno species are equally convex.
