Fromea warlinghamensis
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Fromea warlinghamensis Gitmez and Sarjeant, 1972, p.188–189, pl.1, figs.6,8; pl.9, figs.5–6. Holotype: Gitmez and Sarjeant, 1972, pl.1, fig.6. Taxonomic senior synonym: Fromea amphora (Appendix A), according to Riley (1979, p.221) — however, Jansonius (1989, p.67) retained Fromea warlinghamensis. Taxonomic junior synonym: Fromea irregularis (Appendix A), according to Jansonius (1989, p.65). Age: Kimmeridgian.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Paratype: Gitmez and Sarjeant, 1972
Locus typicus: Warlingham, Surrey, England
Original diagnosis: Gitmez and Sarjeant, 1972, p.188
Cyst broadly ovoidal- to almost spherical, with a relatively thick wall. Archeopyle apical, subhexagonal to almost circular; a rather rounded projectioII, not always observable, appears to be a sulcal tongue. The shell surface is densely and coarsely granular. A cingulum is indicated by indentations at the margins; less frequently, it is traceable across the surface.
Dimensions: Holotype: length (apex lacking) 47.3 µm, breadth 40.5 µm. Paratype (a): length (apex lacking) 81.5 µm, breadth 79.5 µm. Paratype (b): length (apex lacking) 71 µm, breadth 65 µm. Range of specimens observed (25 in number); length (apex lacking) 42.5 µm, breadth 40.8 µm.
Original description: Gitmez and Sarjeant, 1972, p.188
The pronounced original sphericity characteristic of this species results in a variety of structures produced by compression; paratype (a) in particular, shows an irregular series of bulges. The granules are of vrariable size and are characteristically circular; the distinctly polygonal granules on the outbulges on paratype (a) probably result from pressure by mineral grains. The wall appears to be composed of a single layer: it may be as much as 2-3 µm in thickness.
