Escharisphaeridia pocockii (Sarjeant, 1968) Erkmen and Sarjeant, 1980

Originally Chytroeisphaeridia, subsequently Lithodinia, thirdly (and now) Escharisphaeridia.

Holotype: Sarjeant 1968: Pl. 3. fig. 9
Locus typicus: Marnes de Dives, foreshore cxposure, Falaise des Vaches Noires, Villers-sur-Mer.
Stratum typicum: L. lamberti Zone, uppermost Callovian, Jurassic
Age: Late Callovian

Original diagnosis: Sarjeant 1968, p. 230: Chytroeisphaeridia pococki
A species of Chytrocisphaeridia characterised by the possession of a pronouncedly granular surface.
Dimensions: Holotype: length (apex lacking) 45µm, breadth 55µm. Range: length (apices lacking) 38-45µm, breadth 50-55µm.
Remarks: Similar specimens, albeit somewhat larger, have been recorded from the upper part of the S. calloviense Zone (Lower Callovian) of Bavent, Normandy (Sarjeant, l965); they have also been noted in Canadian Upper Jurassic assemblages by Stanley A.J. Pocock, in an unpublished report courteously communicated to the author.
