Gardodinium elongatum Singh, 1971

Tax. jr. synonym of Gardodinium eisenackii Alberti, 1961, according to Brideaux and McIntyre, 1975, which species is a tax. jr. synonym of Gardodinium trabeculosum (Gocht, 1959) Alberti, 1961, according to Davey, 1974.
Lentin and Williams, 1981, agreed with Brideaux and McIntyre, 1975, and Davey, 1974.

Test dorsoventrally flattened; body elongate-oval in outline; apical horn about 8 to 10 Ám wide and more than 1/2 of the length of the body; tip of the apical horn open; overall length of the test always more than twice its breadth; cingulum distinct, bordered on either side by a row of closely-spaced, slender processes; some specimens showing sulcus on epitract and hypotract; inner capsule ornamented by numerous short, slender, equal processes; tips of the processes bifurcate and supporting the outer body wall; inner capsule with a prominent, knoblike protrusion projecting into the base of the apical horn; tip of the knoblike protrusion bearing two to three, up to 20- Ám long, threadlike, flexuous setae; outer body wall membraneous and hyaline.

Affinities:
Singh, 1971, p. 380: Gardodinium elongatum differs from all the described species of the genus Gardodinium Alberti, 1961, in having a very elongate and narrow test.
