Hystrichokolpoma manipulatum

Hystrichokopolma manipulatum Islam, 1983

Holotype: Islam, 1983, pl.3, fig.1
Locus typicus: Isle of Sheppey, SE England
Stratum typicum: Early Eocene

Original diagnosis: Islam, 1983, p.238
The cyst is subspherical, skolochorate and biphragmal; the periphragm is microreticulate or chagrinate; possesses two types of intratabular hollow procecces: the paracingular series is tubular with rimmed tips and slightly wider bases: the remaining processes are broad, proximally closed and distally divided into tubules with rimmed tips; all prosses are distally open; the antapical process is generally the Iongest, may be bellshaped, distally end up in a conical tubule which may bear minor tubules; paratabulation 4", 6". ?6c, 5-6"", 1p, 1"""", xs; the archeopyle is apical type tA.
Dimensions: Holotype cyst body 31x31 µm, length of processes 11-16 µm, breadth of processes 5-8 µm, length of antapical proess 18 µm. Range: cyst length 42(34)28 µm, breadth 42(35)28 µm, length of processes 10-20 µm, breadth of processes 5-15 µm, length of antapical process 20(18)10 µm. Specimens measured 10. Paracingular processes not ineluded in breadth measurements.

Affinities:
Islam, 1983, p.238: It differs from other species of the genus in process morphology. The processes morphologically resemble those of Diphyes colligerum (Deflandre and Cookson) and appear as if proximally fused together on a paraplate, - the number of distal tubules being a possible reflection of their original number. "Proximal fusion" may be highrising or only incipient when their morphological similarities with those of Diphyes colligerum are more apparent and some paraplates may even bear discrete processes. Some forms possessing distally closed processes with rimmed or acuminate tips appear to be morphologically close to D. spinula (Drugg). These forms may be separated from this species in due course.
