Oligosphaeridium granulatum
Oligosphaeridium granulatum He Chengquan, 1991
Holotype: He Chengquan, 1991, pl.26, fig.17
Age: Late Eocene
Description from He Chengquan, 1991, translated by Suning Hou, 07-01-2019
Description: Body Oval from polar vision. Wall thickness about 2.5μm, two layers thickness nearly equal, the inner wall surface dense granular, adjacent particles may be linked into a short wrinkle, the particles are high, rod like; The outer wall surface (including processes) is smooth. Processes longer, 13 are visible in the surrounding, its shape and size are consistent, hollow, the base is generally slightly wider, distally slightly expanded and open ends with thorns (long 5-7μm), bent backwards, the number various, mostly 5-6. Processes intratabular, one process per plate. Lack of cingulum processes. Tabulation 4', 6", 6'’',?p, 1"". Archeopyle apical, the outline fuzzy, almost rectangular. Operculum preserved in situ.
Body diameter 65μm, process length 35μm.
Comparison: This species is quite similar to Oligosphaeridium reticulatum, but the former has a large body and the inner surface particles developed, the processes long and its end with a few thorns, the latter’s body small, the inner surface fine reticular, process short; funnel-shaped, the ends strongly torn-like. Its significant ornamentation on the inner layer is different from O. Complex, O. vasiformum (outer wall granular).
Location and stratigraphy: Wuqia County Basebulak; Basebulak fm member two and three.
