Glossodinium shihebeiense
Glossodinium shihebeiense Yu Jingxian, 1982
Holotype: Yu Jingxian, 1982, pl.3,fig.6
Age: Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous
Description: Cysts rhombic. Periphragm and endophragm. Periphragm thin, often bearing fine creases. Endophragm thicker than periphragm. Surface bears granulate ornamentation. Inner body elliptical to rhombic.
Apical horn short and blunt. Antapical horns not displayed. Sometimes 3 - 4 short spines extend from periphragm. Precingular archeopyle, rhombic in outline. Paracingulum annular, decorated on edges with membranate coronal ridges and dividing cyst into upper and lower sections. Epicyst in shape of isosceles triangle. Hypocyst trapezoidal. Parasutures not displayed. Sometimes, sparsely scattered spine ornamentation observed on edge of periphragm.
Size: Cysts 98 - 102 µm long and 65 - 67 µm wide.
Comparison: This new species resembles G. dimorphum Ioannides, Stavrinos & Downie in being bicavate, having a precingular archeopyle and not displaying paratabulation but is differentiated by its length being greater than its width and by its lack of finger-shaped antapical horns.
