Now Dinogymnium heterocostatum ssp. kolpascheuii. Originally Gymnodinium heterocostatum var. kolpaschevii, subsequently (and now) Dinogymnium heterocostatum ssp. kolpaschevii.
Lentin and Vozzhennikova, 1990, provided an expanded description for this taxon.

Original description: Vozzhennikova, 1967, p. 45
Epitheca and hypotheca of almost equal size. Epitheca bell-shaped, hypotheca funnel-shaped with an attenuated antapical end. Transverse furrow deep, its margin wavy. Longitudinal furrow slit-like, extending along both epitheca and hypotheca. Ribs of varying length extend from the transverse furrow in the direction of the poles. Theca is light-colored, smooth or fine grained.
