Hystrichosphaera cornuta var. Iaevimura Davey and Williams, 1966

NOW Spiniferella cornuta subsp. laevimura. Originally Hystrichosphaera cornuta var. laevimura, subsequently Spiniferites cornutus subsp. laevimurus, thirdly (and now) Spiniferella cornuta subsp. laevimura.
Taxonomic senior synonym: Spiniferites cornutus subsp. cornutus (now Spiniferella cornuta subsp. cornuta), according to Cookson and Eisenack (1974, p.62) — however, Below (1982c, p.33) retained Hystrichosphaera cornuta var. laevimura (as Spiniferites cornutus subsp. laevimurus.
Taxonomic junior synonyms: Spiniferites cornutus var. crassifurcatus and Spiniferites cornutus var. normalis, both according to Below (1982c, p.33).

Original diagnosis: Davey and Williams, 1966, 44
A variety of H. cornula (Gerlach) with smooth surfaced central body. Gonal and sutural processes short and subconical. A large distinctive apical process present often bearing small lateral spines.
Dimensions: holotype: diameter of central body 43 by 53 µm, length of processes up to 12 µm. Range: diameter of central body 34-64 µm, length of processes up to 14 µm length of apical process 16-32 µm.
