Microsphaeridium ancistroides
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Microsphaeridium ancistroides Benedek, 1972, p.47, pl.12, figs.3a–b; text-fig.21. Holotype: Benedek, 1972, pl.12, figs.3a–b; Benedek and Sarjeant, 1981, fig.10, no.4; Sarjeant et al., 1987, pl.2, fig.3. Benedek and Sarjeant (1981, p.347) recommended that this name be restricted to the holotype. Brinkhuis et al. (1992, p.238) considered Distatodinium biffii to be a possible taxonomic junior synonym of this species. Age: Late Oligocene.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Locus typicus: Tönisberg, Germany
Stratum typicum: Late Oligocene
Translation Benedek, 1972: LPP
Original diagnosis: As for the genus (Benedek, 1972, p. 46: Microsphaeridium):
The round to oval capsule has a smooth, untabulated surface. The surface is covered by a few hollow, very long and at the tip closed, multifurcate processes, which have influence on the shape of the capsule at their base. The length of the processes exceeds the cyst diameter. Pylome until now unknown.
Original decription: Benedek, 1972, p.47
Capsule with delicate wall and five hollow, extremely long processes. Processes narrow, with simple or slightly widened bases. Processes split distally into long, pointed branches, ending in short, antler-like furcations with small hooks at the ends.
Dimensions: Capsule 25-30 µm. Process length up to first furcation 42/50/60 µm.
