Taxonomic senior synonym: Muderongia mcwhaei, according to Monteil (1991b, p.473) — however, Prössl (1992b, p.115) retained Phoberocysta rariornata.
This name was not validly published in Prössl (1990, p.98–99), since that author did not specify the lodgment of the holotype.

Cavate cyst with four distinct horns, one apical, one antapical and two in cingular position. Occasionally gonal and intergonal, straight-acuminate to sinuo-capitate processes appear.

Endocyst and pericyst are thin-walled and and often folded. The endocyst is rhomboedrical and smooth. The pericyst consists of weak sutures and occasionally processes. Affinties:
Prössl, 1990, p. 98: P. rariornata differs from P. neocomica ssp. cruciformis in minor
ornamentation and in having larger cingular horns.
