Protobatioladinium lunare

Protobatioladinium lunare Monteil, 1992

Holotype: Monteil, 1992, pl.VI, fig.1-3
Paratype 1: Monteil, 1992, pl.VI, fig.4-6
Paratype 2: Monteil, 1992, pl.VII, fig.1-2
Locus typicus: Broyon section, ArdÞche, SE France
Stratum typicum: Early Tithonian
Translation Monteil, 1992: LPP

Original diagnosis: Monteil, 1992, p. 276
Cyst proximate, acavate, subspherical to ovoidal, elongated by 3 rounded horns, 1 apical and 2, very faintly differentiated antapicals. Apex marked by a broad and short horn, preserving the regular curvature of the cyst. Antapex bearing 2 antapical horns; the left one expressed by a small pustule, and the right one by a simple swelling. Wall relatively thick, apparently composed of an autophragm. Autophragm uniformly ornamented with a regular micro-reticulum of punctuations, less than 1 µm in diameter, where sometimes even smaller perforations are intercalated. Combination archaeopyle, type (tA)+2I. Operculum composed of three free opercular pieces, but often remaining in situ. Paratabulation only expressed by the archaeopyle margin, indicating the presence of 6 precingular paraplates (1""-6""). Paracingulum and parasulcus not indicated.
Dimensions:
Holotype: cyst length x width (opercular pieces in situ) = 85 x 56 µm.
Paratype 1: cyst length x width (opercular pieces in situ) = 85 x 54 µm.
Paratype 2: cyst length x width (opercular pieces in situ) = 85 x 55 µm.
Variations: (12 specimens): cyst length x width (opercular pieces in situ) = 84-86 x 54-57 µm. Cyst length x width (archaeopyle not developed) = 70-74 x 48-51 µm.

Affinities: Monteil, 1992, p. 276
Protobatioladinium lunare differs from P. westburiensis in its short and broad apical horn, not forming a marked angle with the rest of the cyst, its thick wall and its uniform ornamentation composed of a micro-reticulum of punctuations.
P. imbatodinense possesses two equal antapical lobes and a uniform ornamentation of coarse granules which become finer on the apical horn.
