Hystrichodinium minusculum
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Hystrichodinium minusculum Prössl, 1990, p.103–104, pl.3, figs.4–6 ex Prössl, 1992b, p.113,115. Holotype: Prössl, 1990, pl.3, figs.4–6. This name was not validly published in Prössl (1990, p.103–104), since that author did not specify the lodgment of the holotype. Age: early to early late Hauterivian.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description Prössl, 1990 (translation PKB 2025):
Derivatio nominis: minusculus = rather small, due to the small size.
Holotype: 101-122 (14)
Locus typicus and stratum typicalum: Konrad borehole 101. Depth 601.31 m, lower Ober-Hauterive.
Stratigraphic range: Lower Hauterive to lower Ober Hauterive, PNR 12:1-122.
Diagnosis: The chorate cyst is spherical to subspherical with approximately 30 hollow processes.
Description: The cyst is wider than it is tall and bears up to 30 acuminate, hollow processes, which can be straight to sinusoidal. The paratabulation is not clearly recognizable, but the usual formula for Hystrichodinium, 4', 6", 6c, 6'", 1p, 1"", is likely. The processes are arranged along the parasutures, which appear as flat ridges. In contrast to the smooth endophragm, the periphragm is partially slightly pustulate. The epicyst and hypocyst are approximately the same size.
Remarks: The cyst is very small for this genus and differs from Cauca parva in its thinner, smooth endophragm and shorter processes.
Dimensions: Holotype 101一122-14: Length of the cyst: 24 µm.
Width of the cyst: 26 µ. Processes: L0-14 µ. Cingulum: approx. 3 µ.
