Nannoceratopsis plegas var. dictyornatus
Nannoceratopsis plegas var. dictyornatus Prauss, 1989
Now Nannoceratopsis plegas ssp. dictyornatus. Originally Nannoceratopsis plegas var. dictyornatus, subsequently (and now) Nannoceratopsis plegas ssp. dictyornatus.
Holotype: Prauss, 1989, pl.7, figs.2-3
Age: Early Aalenian
Nannoceratopsis plegas ssp. dictyornatus
Original description: A variation of N. plegas with subtriangular outline in lateral view. Pedium solid, luxuria spongious with relatively large reticulation. Both dorsal mand ventral antapical horns are approximately equally long and are separated by a broad, flattened antapical indentation. The relatively thick luxuria comes loose from the pedium in the distal parts of the horns to form a small pericoel. In some cases a third layer (supratectum) with development of a small ectocoel was observed at the distal part of the antapical horns. The plates H1 and H4 are relatively elongate and weakly concave. Dorsally, in the upper, adcingular quarter of the hypocyst there is a clear indentation. Overall, the form has a characteristic shape of a coat-hanger.
Dimensions (10 specimens):
l: 73,1(84,1)100,0 Ám
w: 57,7(70,4)78,8 Ám
horns (average) dorsal 18,5 Ám, ventral 19,0 Ám
The variation differs from N. plegas. var. plegas in the coarsely reticulate surface ornamentation, the approximately equal length of the dorsal and ventral antapical horns, as well as the dorsal indentation of the hypocyst. With the exception of the horn lenghts, the same differentiations hold for the comparison with N. plegas var. brevicornus.
