Phallocysta minuta
Phallocysta minuta Prauss, 1989
Name illegitimate. Nomenclatural jr. synonym of Fromea elongata Beju, 1971, since Prauss, 1989 included the holotype Fromea elongata in synonymy with Phallocysta minuta. Riding et al., 1991 considered the form described by Prauss, 1989 as Phallocysta minuta to have a distinctive morphology. Accordingly, we herein propose the name Phallocysta subconica for it.
Now Phallocysta subconica. Originally Phallocysta minuta (name illegitimate), subsequently (and now) Phallocysta subconica.
Holotype: Prauss, 1989, pl.2, fig.3; text-fig.5
Age: Late Toarcian-Early Bajocian
Description: Cyst habit proximate/epicavate, in the form of a pointed cone, endoblast spheroidal. Pedium solid, smooth. Luxuria solid, smooth, detached from the cingular bulge up to the apex, forming the tectum. Nonareate, archaeopyle anterior intercalary 1a+2a+3a, operculum secate. Cingulum often markes as a slight indentation of the periblast. No protruberances of the hypocyst.
Dimensions periblast endoblast in µm
l: 49,0(55,5)62,0 diameter 26,0(30,8)36,0
b: 27,0(31,8)38,0
10 specimens.
Affinities: Prauss, 1989
The epicavate forms of P. minuta are clearly smaller, more weakly ornamented, and always without protruberances of the hypocyst. This also distinguishes it from P. erregulensis.
