Operculodinium centrocarpum ssp. novum
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Operculodinium centrocarpum ssp. novum Marheinecke, 1992, p.54–55, pl.10, figs.4,7–8. Holotype: Marheinecke, 1992, pl.10, figs.4,7–8. Contrary to the opinion of Lentin and Williams (1993, p.466), Williams et al. (1998, p.441) considered this name to be validly published. Age: late early–late late Maastrichtian.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Locus typicus: Hemmoor, Lower Saxony, Germany
Stratum typicum: Late Maastrichtian
Translation Marheinecke, 1992: LPP
Original description: Marheinecke, 1992, p. 54
Cyst habit sphaeroidal to subsphaeroidal. Wall composed of pedium and luxuria which develops a high number of (>100) solid, capitate processes. The surface of the central budy is granulate, the distribution of processes irregular. Length of processes ca 1/4 of central body diameter. Cingulum and sulcus not indicated. Areation: indicated by archaeopyle only. Archaeopyle: precingular, 3''; operculum secate.
Affinities:
Marheinecke, 1992, p. 54: O. centrocarpum ssp. novum is similar to O. centrocarpum ssp. centrocarpum but does not show the concentration on the area-boundaries. It differs from O. centrocarpum ssp. amplum (W.Wetzel 1955) Sarjeant 1984 in the shape and number of processes.
