Spiniferites ramosus ssp. ulcus Marheinecke 1992

Contrary to the opinion of Lentin and Williams (1993, p.616), Williams et al. (1998, p.580) considered this name to be validly published. N.I.A.

Holotype: Marheinecke, 1992, pl.2, fig.3
Locus typicus: Hemmoor, Lower Saxony, Germany
Stratum typicum: Late Maastrichtian
Translation Marheinecke, 1992: LPP

Original description: Marheinecke, 1992, p.20
Cyst subsphaeroidal, spiniferate. Wall composed of pedium and luxuria. Luxuria produced into finate septae and gonal processes. Intergonal processes may be present.
Surface ornamentation: ulceriform.
Septae: Towards the bases moderate to strongly hiate muri, with cannae. No ornamentation or weakly punctate.
Processes: gonal, distally trifurcate and intergonal, distally bifurkate. Processes 2nd order usually not longer than half the length of processes 1st order. Distal ends of 2nd order processes bifurcate. Processes developed by the connection of three septae may be hollow and open in the triple point. The bi- and multifurcate processes develop strong cavations at the bases.
Apical region: septae of apical region usually incompletely developed, process on triple point 2"/2"/3"" usually missing.
Cingulum: sinistral, displaced one cingulum width.
Sulcal region: sulcus not differentiated, straight. Area 6"" triangular, septae to sulcus may be missing.
Areation: 3-4", 6"", 6c, 5-6""", 1p, 1"""", Xs.
Archaeopyle: 3""; operculum 3"", secate.
Dimensions: Length central body 28(32)43 µm, breadth central body 27(32)41 µm.

Affinities:
Marheinecke, 1992, p.20: Differs from all other subspecies in having a ulcinate surface ornamentation. Differs from S. ramosus ramosus in having intergonal processes.
