Batiacasphaera cassiculus
Batiacasphaera cassicula, Wilson 1988
Holotype: Wilson, 1988, pl.2, Fig.5
Locus typicus: Hawkes Bay, New Zealand
Stratum typicum: Middle Eocene (Porangan)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Wilson, 1988, p. 14]:
Description:
Relatively large subspherical or lenticular Batiacasphaera with characteristic reticulate surface and thick autophragm (up to 4µm). Reticulum variable with thick muri separating the lumen; diameter of lumen rarely exceeds 3 µm.
Archeopyle large with broadly zig-zag margin; operculum generally free, occasionally remains in place.
No indications of paratabulation, paracingulum, parasulcus, or other surface ornament.
Dimensions:
Holotype: length 84 µm, breadth 84 µm. Range: diameter 73(85)93 µm (n= 10).
Affinities:
The species differs from Batiacasphaera reticulata Davey (1969) in being substantially larger and in having a much more pronounced reticulation.
