Locus typicus: Waipawa Section, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand
Stratum typicum: Waipawan Stage, Early Eocene

Original description: Wilson, 1988, p. 23
Cyst of intermediate size, subspherical; autophragm thick (c.3 µm) smooth or finely punctate, bearing low, solid smooth-crested parasutural septa. Archeopyle small, length and breadth usually less than one third diameter of cyst. Second and third apical paraplates large, and comprise significant area of upper dorsal epicyst; first and fourth apical paraplates relatively narrow and elongate. Paratabulation well defined: 4', 6'', 6c, 5''', 1p, 1'''', Xs; no apparent subdivision into sulcal paraplates. Parasulcus elongated, relatively narrow.

Dimensions: Holotype: overall length 80 µm, breadth 75 µm, height of septa 2-3 µm, length of archeopyle 17 µm, breadth 22 µm. Range: maximum diameter 66(80)92 µm (n= 10).

Affinities:
Wilson, 1988, p. 23: The species has some resemblance to I. victorianum (Cookson & Eisenack) from the Upper Eocene of Australia (Cookson & Eisenack 1965) but differs from that species in having a thicker wall, more solid septa and a relatively smaller archeopyle.
