Aldorfia dictyota

Aldorfia dictyota, (Cookson and Eisenack, 1960), Davey, 1982

Lentin and Williams, 1985, did not accept the transfer of this species to Aldorfia by Davey, 1982. Jan du Chene et al., 1986, Riding, 1987, and Lentin and Williams, 1989, also included this species in Aldorfia. Because of the above, we do not accept the retention of this species in Scriniodinium Klement, 1960, by Brenner, 1988.

Holotype: Cookson and Eisenack, 1960, pl.37, fig.9; Jan du Chene et al., 1986, pl.5, fig.1; pl.7, fig.6.
Paratype: Cookson and Eisenack, 1960, pl. 37, fig. 8
Locus typicus: Alexander Formation, W.Australia
Stratum typicum: Oxfordian to Thitonian

Original description as Scriniodinium dictyotum: [Cookson and Eisenack, 1960, p. 248]:

Description:
Shell flat, oval, divided by a +/- distinct and relatively broad girdle into an epitheca and hypotheca of approximately equal size; epitheca prolonged into a broadly based, short, blunt apical projection. Capsule oval with a short apical prominence. The wall of the capsule bears numerous thin perpendicular ledges which form a small-meshed supporting reticulum for the thin outer membrane. The meshes of the reticulum vary considerably in size and are usually widest towards the periphery. The pylome is broadly hoof-shaped and reaches the girdle.

Dimensions:
Holotype: 109 µm long, 95 µm broad, capsule 95x83 µm.

Aldorfia dictyota (Cookson and Eisenack, 1960b) Davey, 1982b, has a relatively broad cingulum. Pericyst prolonged into short, blunt apical horn. Endocyst with small apical bulge. Endocyst bears numerous, thin perpendicular ledges, which form a small-meshed supporting reticulum for the thin outer membrane. The lumina of the reticulum vary considerably in diameter.
Size: length 109 µm, breadth 95 µm
