Samlandia delicata
Samlandia delicata Wilson, 1988
Holotype: Wilson, 1988, pl.19, fig.3a-b
Locus typicus: Waipawa Section, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand
Stratum typicum: Waipawan Stage, Early Eocene
Original description: Wilson, 1988, p. 28
Cyst of intermediate size, subspherical, with broad blunt apical protrusion (length up to 15 µm) low broad rounded antapical protrusion and occasionally with short paracingular protrusions. Autophragm forms delicate fairly fine reticulum (lacunae up to 5 µm) covered or partly covered with thin perforate ectophragm (perforations 1-2 µm). Paratabulation indicated by archeopyle only. Archeopyle precingular, Type P(3""); operculum free. Paracingulum generally indicated by low parallel bordering ridges, especially at autocyst margin (average width of paracingulum 3-6 µm). Parasulcus sometimes indicated on ventral surface by narrow longitudinal area virtually devoid of ornamentation.
Dimensions: Holotype: overall length 79 µm, breadth 67 µm, length of apical protrusion 12 µm, breadth 18 µm, length of antapical protrusion 4 µm, breadth 35 µm. Range: overall length 73(86)97 µm, breadth 54(70)81 µm (n= 10).
Affinities:
Wilson, 1988, p. 29: The species most closely resembles Samlandia reticulifera Cookson & Eisenack from which it differs chiefly in having a very thin perforate ectophragm and a broader, more rounded, antapical protrusion.
