Schematophora obscura Wilson, 1988

Holotype: Wilson, 1988, pl.20, fig.1a-b
Locus typicus: Waipawa Section, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand
Stratum typicum: Waipawan Stage, Early Eocene

Original description: Wilson, 1988, p. 30
Cyst subspherical, of intermediate size, usually with a slight apical peak. Autophragm fairly thin (1-2 µm) finely reticulate. Paratabulation indicated by low solid penitabular ridges with irregular crests (height c. 2 µm) and separated by broad parasutural areas. Paratabulation formula: 3-4", 6"", Xc, 5-6""", 1p, 1"""", Xs. Paraplates generally subpolygonal, with postcingular dorsal paraplates larger than precingular series. Archeopyle large (Type tA) with prominent zigzag suture; operculum free. Paracingulum represented by prominent parallel gap between precingular and postcingular series, sometimes segmented by low irregular transverse ridges. Parasulcus indicated by large relatively smooth area on ventral surface extending almost to archeopyle suture; not generally segmented into paraplates.
Dimensions: Holotype: overall diameter 57 µm, Range: diameter 54(62)73 µm (n= 10).

Affinities:
Wilson, 1988, p. 30: The species is distinguished from the type in lacking definitive sulcal paraplates and in having lower, more solid, penitabular ridges.
