Operculodinium spiniferum De Coninck, 1986

Name illegitimate. Jr. homonym of Operculodinium? spiniferum Cookson and Eisenack, 1982.
Now Operculodinium deconinckii. Originally Operculodinium spiniferum De Coninck, 1986 (name illegitimate), subsequently (and now) Operculodinium deconinckii.

Holotype: De Coninck, 1986, pl.6, figs.26-28
Locus typicus: Woensdrecht borehole, S Netherland
Stratum typicum: Bartonian-Tongrian

Original diagnosis: De Coninck, 1986, p. 16-17
The spherical central body has a rather thick and two-layered wall. The inner wall layer is thin and smooth. The thicker outer wall layer is granulate and bears robust spines, gradually narrowing towards their distal and generally somewhat flexuous end. The distribution of these spines on the central body is not especially regular and does not seem to reflect a tabulation. The archeopyle, when present, is precingular and corresponds to plate 3".
Dimensions of the central body: Holotype: 31 to 32 Ám. Other specimens: 25 to 35 Ám. Dimensions of the spines: Holotype: 5 to 8 Ám long and up to 2 Ám wide at the base. Other specimens: from 1 to 3 Ám wide at the base and between 4 and 12 Ám long. Overall dimensions: Holotype: 43 to 48 Ám. Other specimens: 33 to 55 Ám.
