Cleistosphaeridium deflandrei
Cleistosphaeridium deflandrei, Courtinat, 1989
Name illegitimate; nomenclatural junior synonym of Hystrichosphaeridium (now Cleistosphaeridium) ehrenbergii Deflandre, 1947, since both species have the same holotype. Courtinat, 1989, erected the species Cleistosphaeridium deflandrei and designated as holotype the specimen illustrated in Deflandre, 1938, pl.10, fig.9, and Deflandre, 1947, text-fig.1, no.5. This is the only specimen of Hystrichosphaeridium ehrenbergii illustrated by Deflandre, 1947, when he erected this species. Courtinat, 1989, considered Hystrichosphaeridium ehrenbergii Deflandre, 1947, to be a nomen nudum, since Deflandre, 1947, did not give a diagnosis or designate a holotype. According to Lentin and Williams, 1993, referring to the ICBN, Hystrichosphaeridium ehrenbergii Deflandre, 1947, must be regarded as a validly published species and Cleistosphaeridiuim deflandrei Courtinat, 1989, as an illegitimate name, being a nomenclatural junior synonym of Hystrichosphaeridium ehrenbergii.
Tax. jr. synonym of Hystrichosphaeridium (as Cleistosphaeridium) ehrenbergii Deflandre, 1947, according to Stancliffe, 1991.
Holotype: Deflandre, 1938, pl.10, fig.9; Deflandre, 1947, text-fig.1, no.5
Locus typicus: Villers-sur-mer, Calvados, France
Stratum typicum: Jurassic
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original diagnosis: [Courtinat, 1989, p.166]: (Translation: LPP):
Diagnosis:
Skolochorate cyst, the wall is formed by an autophragm which bears about 45 simple apicular processes. The length of these hollow processes is 30-50% of the body diameter. An apical archaeopyle is present and visible by its polygonal outline without accessory sutures. No other paratabulation element is discernible; the processes are nontabular.
