Apectodinium capitulatum
Apectodinium capitulatum, He Chengquan, 1991
Holotype: He Chengquan, 1991, pl.27, fig.15
Location and stratigraphy: Wuqia County Basebulak; Qimugen fm, the lower member.
Age: Paleocene
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [He Chengquan, 1991]: (translated by Suning Hou, 07-01-2019):
Description:
the apex of the specimen is damaged, the outline of the body is roughly pentagonal, the apical horn is damaged, the two antapical horns are degraded, lateral horns are displayed more or less. The wall is delaminated, the inner and outer layers tightly attached together, the surface has sparse processes, straight or curved, solid or slightly expanding at the base and hollow, the majority expands distally forming small balls, a few with bifurcation, shaped like an antler, the ends of branches expand; Both types of processes are solid or hollow at the end. The processes generally gather at the corner, on the outline of each side there are only 1-2 processes or lacking. The wall surfaces between the processes are perfectly smooth, but there is a granular- short wrinkled ornamentation that may belong to the inner structure. Operculum unknown.
Dimensions:
The cyst total diameter is about 100 μm, the body diameter is about 62 μm, processes length 3-14 μm.
Affinities/Comparison:
this new species is distinguished by the appearance of small ball distal processes or distally antler-like bifurcated and a short-wrinkled inner structure ornamentation from Apectodinium paradoxum.
