Batiacasphaera tuberculata
Batiacasphaera tuberculata, He Chengquan, 1991
Holotype: He Chengquan, 1991, pl.6, fig.2
Location and stratigraphy: Ulugquat County Basebulak, Wulagen fm.
Age: Middle Eocene
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [He Chengquan, 1991]: (translated by Suning Hou, 07-01-2019):
Description:
Cyst is flat, outline nearly spherical to nearly oval, length and width nearly equal, and sometimes width larger than length. No apical, antapical horns, tabulation only reflected in the edge of the archeopyle. The wall is thick (1.5-2. 5μm), two layers, the surface with dense tumor or tumer-wrinkles ornamentation, the size of the tumors on the same specimen sometimes changes, the diameter is generally 1 - 3μm, exceptionally up to 5μm; most tumors are not high (0.5-1μm), the top of tumors are round, rarely cone, about 3μm high; tumor and tumor separation is not obvious enough, perhaps interconnected tumor-wrinkle like, so that the surface of the cyst appears to be rough and (or) incomplete fine reticulate. Archeopyle apical (tA), the edge angular or boat-shaped. Operculum completely separated and attached to the edge of the archeopyle.
Dimensions:
Cyst length 75-85μm, width 73-82. 5μm (measured 2) holotype length 75μm, width 82. 5μm, tumor diameter 1-3μm.
Affinities:
The newer species is characterized by surface fine tumor and tumor-wrinkle ornamentation. It is similar to Canningia? Circularis, but the former is smaller, the surface is almost with round top tumors, the latter surface with dense steeple tumor, so these two are different.
