Batiacasphaera xinjiangensis
Batiacasphaera xinjiangensis, Lentin and Williams, 1993, nom. nov. subst. pro Batiacasphaera granulosa He Chengquan, 1991, non Batiacasphaera granulosa, (Cookson and Eisenack, 1974), Jansonius, 1989
Originally Batiacasphaera granulosa He Chengquan, 1991 (name illegitimate), subsequently (and now) Batiacasphaera xinjiangensis.
Holotype: He Chengquan, 1991, pl.6, fig.7
Location and stratigraphy: Ulugquat County Basebulak; lower Qimugen fm and Wulagen fm.
Age: Paleocene
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [He Chengquan, 1991]: (translated by Suning Hou, 07-01-2019):
Description:
Cyst subspherical to spherical triangle; lack of apical, antapical horns and cingulum.
Tabulation is only obviously reflected by the edge of archeopyle.
Wall thickness medium 1.3 μm or so, stratification uncertain, surface with dense particles that are fine, clear and isolated.
Archeopyle apical (tA), the edge is clearly angular, nicked/incision deep, reflecting that there are 6-7? precingular plates. Operculum free.
Dimensions:
Typical specimen diameter 75 μm.
Affinities:
This new species is distinguished from Batiacasphaera euteiches (Davey, 1969) by the larger and thiner cyst and uncertain stratigraphy; distinguished from B. micropapillata by its large cyst, dense and separated surface particles; distinguished from B. macrogranulata, B. reticulata (Davey, 1969) by its ornamentation.
