Bosedinia kuantanensis
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Bosedinia kuantanensis Cole, 1992, p.188, pl.2, fig.4; pl.3, figs.1–2; text-figs.3I,4A–B. Holotype: Cole, 1992, pl.3, fig.1.
Age: Late Oligocene–Middle Miocene.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Cole, 1992]:
Bosedinia kuantanensis sp. nov.
Plate 2, fig. 4; Plate 3, figs. 1-2; Text-Figures 31 and 4A, B
Holotype. Plate 3, fig. 1; Anoa-1, Sample C, Olympus BH-2 microscope coordinates 14/139.2., Robertson Research Singapore slide collection.
Type Locality. Anoa-1 well, sample 2910'-2940', South China Sea.
Derivation of Name. Named after Kuantan, a town on the east coast of Malaysia.
Diagnosis. Psilate, oval to spherical, with thick single-layered wall that is not folded but may be slightly crumpled. Large, prominent omphalos,
oblong or dumb-bell shaped and generally. at opposite end of cyst from aperture, although not invariably so. Archeopyle usually very clear as a
large epicystal opening formed of almost one half of the cyst. Operculum almost invariably remains attached along one edge. Archeopyle has a notch on either side causing it to sometimes gape larger than the operculum.
Dimensions. Diameter of cyst: holotype, 59 μm; range, 61(65)70 μm; 6 specimens measured.
Size of omphalos: holotype, 19 μm; range, 14(17)19 μm.
Comments. Degradation of the wall may give it a microgranulate appearance, while small randomly spaced verrucae may be evident.
Comparison. The large size of the cyst (65 μm) and its contained omphalos, as well as the distinct operculum, are the main distinguishing
features. It is larger than Palaeostomocystis scabratus Jiabo, which ranges from 47-53 μm.
Occurrence. Samples 2910'-2940'; Natuna/Trengganu groups, South China Sea.
Observed Stratigraphic Range. Late Oligocene through middle Miocene.
