Original description: [Cole, 1992]:

Bosedinia whelkaris sp. nov.
Plate 3, figs. 3-5; Text-Figure 4.

Holotype. Plate 3, fig. 4;. Anoa-1, Sample C, Olympus BH-2 microscope coordinates 16.1/141.2, Robertson Research Singapore slide collection.
Type Locality. Anoa-1 well; sample 2910'-2940', South China Sea.

Derivation of Name. Whelk, in reference to the verrucate ornament.

Diagnosis. Verrucate, subspherical with single layered wall 1.0 μm thick, and rare folds. Verrucae, up to 3 μm in diameter, tend to be concen-
trated in patches leaving Some areas unornamented. Excystment aperture usually visible as a slightly gaping split. Omphalos large and prominent, oblong in shape.

Dimensions. Diameter of cyst: holotype, 60 μm; range, 55(58)64 μm; five specimens measured.
Size of omphalos: holotype, 15 μm; range, 12(15)20 μm.

Occurrence. Sample 2910'-2940'; Natuna/Trengganu groups, South China Sea.
Observed Stratigraphic Range. Late Oligocene through middle Miocene.

Comparison. The prominent ornament of large verrucae distinguishes this species from other cysts in the assemblage, and from other species of Bosedinia.
