Ceratocorys smolensikensis, Vozzhennikova, 1967
Now Rhiptocorys. Originally Ceratocorys, subsequently Microdinium, thirdly (and now) Rhiptocorys.
Tax. jr. synonym of Micrhystridium (now Rhiptocorys) veligera Deflandre, 1937, According to Below, 1987. Lentin and Vozzhennikova, 1990, retained Ceratocorys (as Rhiptocorys) smolenskiensis as a separate species.
At the time of the transfer to Rhiptocorys Lejeune Carpentier and Sarjeant, 1983, Lentin and Vozzhennikova, 1990, provided an emended description for the species.
Holotype: Vozzhennikova, 1967, pl.36, fig.4, lost according to Lentin and Vozzhennikova, 1990.
Lectotype: Lentin and Vozzhennikova, 1990, pl.13, figs.1-3; text-fig.65 (designated by Lentin and Vozzhennikova, 1990).
Locus typicus: Smolensk region, Russia
Stratum typicum: Late Cretaceous
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Vozzhennikova, 1967, p.93]: (Translation: Lentin and Vozzhennikova, 1990):
Description:
Theca spherical, broadly oval. Epitheca small, slightly convex. Hypotheca large, consisting of regularly or irregularly quadrangular plates. Plates bounded by an undulating or fillet-like crest which is supported on its inner side by slender struts which in optical section appear columnar, and at the corners where the plates unite, by a complex network. The outer margin of the crest is smooth although sometimes it may bear a few small spines. The surface of the plates is sculptured with tuberculous, vermiform or more complicated patterns of sculpture. The position of the plates is the same as in Ceratocorys veligera.
