Hystrichosphaeropsis pontiana
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Hystrichosphaeropsis pontiana (Balteş, 1969, p.35–36, pl.3, fig.15 ex Lentin and Williams, 1973, p.123) Stover and Evitt, 1978, p.164. Holotype: Balteş, 1969, pl.3, fig.15, designated by Lentin and Williams (1973, p.123). Originally Scriniodinium, subsequently (and now) Hystrichosphaeropsis. The name Scriniodinium pontianum was not validly published in Balteş (1969, p.35), since that author considered the name to be a provisional designation. Age: Early Pliocene
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Locus typicus: Romania
Stratum typicum: Early Pliocene
Original language: French
Original description: Baltes, 1969, p. 35-36: Scriniodinium pontianum [translation PKB. 2025]:
Description: Spherical central capsule, diameter 40-50 µm. Well-demarcated cingulum. Periphragm forming a conical epitheca with slightly convex margins and ending in a short apical cone. Apex undivided, rounded. Visible tabulation. Smooth and transparent outer covert. Total length 80-85 µm. Organizational form reminiscent of Hystrichosphaeropsis ovum Deflandre. High frequency determining a reference stratigraphic level.
Age and locality: Pliocene (Pontian) marls of the Precarpathian Depression, Buzau, Ploiesti, Cimpulung zones, Moësic Platform, Transylvanian Depression, Pannonian Depression, Arad, Timisoara zones
