Cordosphaeridium taeniforme
Cordosphaeridium taeniforme He Chengquan, 1991
Holotype: He Chengquan, 1991, pl.18, fig.9
Age: Middle Eocene
Description from He Chengquan, 1991, translated by Suning Hou, 07-01-2019
Description: The body is nearly circular or broad elliptic, length larger than width. Wall thickness about 1μm, the inner layer is thicker, fine granular. The outer wall is thin, weakly fibrous. There are about 24 short processes, formed by the outer wall, banding or flat trumpet shaped, with obvious fibrous structure, generally no or occasionally weak reticular, distally may expand, the edge is complete or scatters into fibrous; The processes on the pre-postcingular and antapical area are usually larger, 10-12.5μm long and 15-22μm wide at the ends. The processes on the apical and cingulum area are smaller, there are even smaller ones on the hypocyst, perhaps the sulcus area and or additional processes. Processes intratabular, one on each plate, the tabulation is roughly 3', 6", 6c, 6"’, ?p, l"", ?s. Archeopyle is large (diameter 67μm), precingular. The operculum is preserved in-situ, with a process on it. Body length 75-100μm, width 70-87.5μm (measured 2); Holotype body length 100μm, width 87.5μm.
Comparison: The new species differs significantly from Cordosphaeridium (Cordosphaeridium) multispinosum and C. (C.) inodes in a larger body, thin wall, short processes and usually not significantly out of body. C. (C.) multispinosum has more processes, there seems to be 2 on each plate.
Location and stratigraphy: Wuqia County Basebulak; Wulagen fm.
