Disphaerogena irregularis

Disphaerogena irregularis (Wilson, 1988, p.16, pl.4, figs.4–5,7a–b) Lentin and Williams, 1993, p.195.

Originally Cyclapophysis, subsequently (and now) Disphaerogena.

Holotype: Wilson, 1988, pl.4, figs.7a–b; Fensome et al., 1996, figs.1–2 — p.2173.
Locus typicus: Waipawa Section, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand
Stratum typicum: Middle Eocene (Porangan)

Original description: Wilson, 1988, p. 16: Cyclapophysis irregularis
Cyst relatively large, spherical to slightly ovoidal, with well-developed endocyst and processes. Endocyst fairly thin walled (up to 2 Ám) and smooth, without obvious polar protuberances; periphragm finely reticulate. Processes intratabular, fibrous to striate precingular and postcingular processes irregularly connected distally by narrow fibrous ribbon-like membrane; antapical process distinctive, relatively broad and flat (b =20 Ám) not connected to other processes.
Paratabulation gonyaulacacean: 4", 6"", Xc, 6-7""", ?1p, 1"""". Archeopyle fairly large (Type P); operculum free. Paracingular area apparently devoid of processes. Dimensions: Holotype: overall length 100Ám, breadth 81Ám, length of endocyst 65Ám, breadth 54 Ám, maximum length of processes 27Ám. Range: overall diameter 67 (90) 110 Ám, diameter of central body 32 (54) 76 Ám, maximum length of processes 24 (26) 27 Ám (n = 6).

Affinities:
Wilson, 1988, p. 16: Cyclapophysis irregularis
The species differs from C. monmouthensis Benson in having a much more irregular network of fused processes, in lacking polar protrusions of the central body, and in having a much broader antapical process. It has a superficial resemblance to Arachnodinium antarcticum Wilson and Clowes (1982) but differs basically in having a precingular rather than an apical archeopyle.
