Scriniodinium amalthei
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Scriniodinium? amalthei (Wetzel, 1966, p.318, pl.31, fig.6) Sarjeant, 1980b, p.117. Emendation: Sarjeant, 1980b, p.117, as Scriniodinium amalthei. Holotype: Wetzel, 1966, pl.31, fig.6. Originally Membranilarnacia, subsequently Membranilarnacia?, thirdly Scriniodinium, fourthly Endoscrinium, fifthly (and now) Scriniodinium?. Questionable assignment: Jan du Chêne et al. (1986a, p.317). Riding and Fensome (2002, p.13) implied effectively that the use of this name be restricted to the holotype. Age: late Pliensbachian.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Wetzel, 1966] (translated from German):
Membranilarnax amalthei n. sp.
Pl. 31, Fig. 6
Diagnosis: Thin-walled inner capsule with a smooth surface. Short, massive struts rise from it, which distally merge into a closed outer membrane.
The only available specimen (holotype) is in specimen Lühnde 5.
Dimensions: Diameter of the inner capsule 31 µ, of the outer shell 42 µ.
Comparison: The next youngest species of the genus have larger dimensions with a smaller distance between the outer shell and the capsule; only Membranilarnax sp. VALENSI 1953 (Pl. 9, Fig. 26) from the Dogger region matches our Liassic specimen.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Emended description Sarjeant, 1980b:
