Originally Gonyaulax, subsequently Gonyaulacysta (combination not validly published), thirdly Leptodinium.
Tax. jr. synonym of Leptodinium subtile Klement, 1960, according to Brenner, 1988.
Sarjeant, 1966, intended to questionably include this species in Gonyaulacysta.
