Ascodinium scabrosum
Ascodinium scabrosum, Cookson and Hughes, 1964
Holotype: Cookson and Hughes, 1964, pl.5, fig.1
Locus typicus: Cambridge Greensand, West Bedfordshire, England
Stratum typicum: Cenomanian
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original diagnosis: [Cookson and Hughes, p. 41]:
Diagnosis:
Shell longer than broad with convex sides which curve inwards towards a bluntly pointed apex and slant slightly towards a somewhat truncate antapex. A circular girdle is faintly indicated in the equatorial region. The shell-membrane is very thin, not more than c. 0.5 µm and densely covered with minute granules. The capsule wall, which is also 0.5 µm thick, is unpatterned and closely opposed to the shell-membrane laterally. Opening is effected by the complete removal of the apical region of the shell and capsule.
