Polysphaeridium tianshanense
Polysphaeridium tianshanense He Chengquan, 1991, p.129, pl.28, fig.13; text-fig.21. Holotype: He Chengquan, 1991, pl.28, fig.13; text-fig.21. Age: Paleocene.
Description from He Chengquan, 1991, translated by Suning Hou, 07-01-2019
Description: The body oval, splintering into two unequal parts, the upper cyst is smaller than the lower cyst. With sparse rod-spiny processes, length 10-15μm, width 1μm, solid, straight or curved, end blunt or pointed, occasionally distally branched; Most of the processes are grouped by 2, the bases are merged into cones (merged base height 5μm, width 2-2.5μm), the distance between the bases is about 10μm; There are 4 processes merged at the middle of the larger lower cyst edge, forming a wide pen holder-shaped process (the combined base is about 10μm wide). Processes are not tabular. Cyst wall thickness 1μm, two layers thickness equal, the surface between the processes is smooth or coarse granular due to corrosion. Archeopyle apical, the edge is nearly smooth. Operculum still attached to the lower cyst edge. Body (excluding processes) diameter 75μm.
Comparison: This species is characterized by solid processes and the bases of processes merged by pairs, which distinguishes it from other species in this genus.
Location and stratigraphy: Wuqia County Basebulak; Qimugen fm, lower member.
