1992 Vesperopsis zhaodongensis Qiao, He et Gao, Qiao Xiuyun et al., pp. 34, 37, 38, plate 2. Figures 1-7.
Description: The cyst is medium to large, dorsally compressed, with an apical horn, lateral horns, and two caudal horns. The apical horn is strong, subcylindrical to oblate-conical, relatively long, with a closed and blunt apex. The caudal horns are of approximately equal size, pointed at their ends, and have curved or inverted U-shaped tail margins. The lateral horns are broad and blunt, approximately equal in size or with the left horn being larger. They have projections extending from the anterior and posterior loins, with the latter being longer and pointed and the former being blunt and less distinct. The cyst wall is thin, single-layered, and has granular patterns on the surface, with some grains connecting into short wrinkles. The girdle is indicated by indentations and weak transverse ridges in the lateral horns. The longitudinal groove is absent, or in a few specimens, an inverted U-shaped area is present on the ventral surface of the subcyst. The plate pattern is indicated by the girdle and palaeostoma. The palaeostoma is apical, with the operculum fused ventrally, and the main palaeostoma suture is Z-shaped or vaguely angular.
The length of the large and small cysts is 76.8 - 84.0 µm, the width is 62.4 - 69.0 µm, the apex is 16.8 - 24.0 µm long, the lateral horns are 7.4 - 9.6 µm long, and the caudal horn is 19.2 - 21.6 µm long.
This species is distinguished from Nyktericysta puyangensis Wan et Qiao (in press) by its simple wall and granular surface decoration, which is characterized by dense wrinkles of varying lengths interspersed with a few granules, and by the generally longer projections extending from the posterior waist region. It also differs from Vesperopsis granulata by its broad, blunt lateral angles.
Origin: Member 4 of the Denglouku Formation, Zhaodong City, Heilongjiang Province.
