Wetzeliella elongata
Wetzeliella elongata He Chengquan, 1991
Holotype: He Chengquan, 1991, pl.41, fig.8
Age: Middle Eocene
Description from He Chengquan, 1991, translated by Suning Hou, 07-01-2019
Description: The cyst is dorsal-ventral flattened, contour elongated pentagonal, with a well-developed horn at each corner. Upper cyst triangular, apical horn significant, top conical, length 22μm. The lower cyst is larger than the upper cyst, inverted trapezoid, with two unequal antapical horns, conical, the larger one has been broken, the smaller is 21μm long. The lateral horns are strong, but both were broken. The cingulum exists, marked by two lateral rows of protrusions between the two lateral horns. Outer wall is dense, brown, with sparse processess on the surface, processes straight or curved, some of them are rod-shaped, solid, and the others are rod distally, basally slightly larger and hollow, their length varies, 2-7.5μm. Inner body contour oval, surface smooth; It is close to the outer wall, except at the horns and the antapex, the outer cavity is degenerated at sides or seam like or lack. Archeopyle intercalary, the outline is round square, the size is 30 × 30μm. The operculum is completely separated, preserved in situ.
Cyst (incomplete) longer than 140μm, wider than 110μm, inner body length 100μm, width 82μm.
Discussion: this species is similar to Wetzeliella coronata (Vozzhennikova, 1967, pl. 90, figs. 1-4) but the latter’s processes are very dense, often two and three processes merge at the base. In addition, some speciesmens classified to W. articulata (1967, pl. 84, from g. 4; pl. 85, fig. 2) by Vozzhennikova are likely to be the same as this new species. Her specimens were found in the late Eocene-early Oligocene in the Western Siberia basin of the Soviet Union.
Location and stratigraphy: Wucha County Basebulak; Wulagen fm.
