Pareodinia brevicornuta
Pareodinia brevicornuta Kunz, 1990
Holotype: Kunz, 1990, pl.1, fig.13; text-fig. 6a
Locus typicus: Ammensen, TK 4024 Freden, NW-Germany
Stratum typicum: Tithonian
Translation Kunz, 1990: LPP
Original description: Kunz, 1990, p.13
Proximate cyst with ovoidal ambitus and short apical horn, reaching c. 1/10 of the total cyst length. Apicval horn sharply delimited, in lateral view nearly vertical on dorsal side. Antapex rounded. Areation expressed just in the intercalary archaeopyle and supplemental ornamentation of the cingulum on few specimens. Epicyst slightly longer than hypocyst. Wall consists of luxuria and pedium. Luxuria develops granulae, verrucae and tuberculae. Ornamentation on hypocyst usually larger and more densely developed. On some specimens a calyptra is observed.
Dimensions:
Holotype - length (with apical horn) 65 µm, breadth 47 µm, apical horn 7 µm.
Further specimens: 11 - length (with apical horn) 55-67 µm, average 62 µm, breadth 36-48 µm, average 44 µm, apical horn 6-8 µm, average 7 µm.
Affinities:
Kunz, 1990, p.13: Pareodinia brevicornutus differs from all other species of this genus by the typical form of the short apical horn and the characteristic ornamentation. P. ceratophora ssp. scopea (Sarjeant, 1972) Lentin and Williams, 1973 is sturdier, smaller and has a psilate to finely granulate surface. P. minuta Wiggins, 1975 and P. robusta Wiggins, 1975 have a different length-breadth ratio.
