Labyrinthodinium truncatum var. reductum

From Fensome et al., 2019:
Labyrinthodinium truncatum Strauss and Lund, 1992, p.164, pl.2, figs.7–11. Holotype: Strauss and Lund, 1992, pl.2, figs.9–11. Age: Middle Miocene.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Paratype: Strauss and Lund, 1992
Locus typicus: Papendorf sand pit (Schleswig-Holstein, Germany)
Stratum typicum: Miocene (Langenfeldian)

Original diagnosis: Strauss and Lund, 1992, p.164
A variety of Labyrinthodinium truncatum with a characteristic reduction of the complex process structure. The network of process-bearing crests is reduced to some isolated patches, which appear to be intratabular at least near the archaeopyle margin.
The archaeopyle is of tA-type, the operculum is free.
Dimensions: Central body diameter 26...38 µm Process length 6... 8 µm.

Affinities:
Strauss and Lund, 1992, p.164: Piasecki (1980) suggested a basic reflected paratabulation from the conformity of the crests with the accessory archaeopyle sutures. It is masked by a superior network of processes. The apparent restriction of reduced process-bearing areas to intratabular patches supports Piasecki"s suggestion.
