Pentadinium laticinctum ssp. granobaculatum
Pentadinium laticinctum ssp. granobaculatum He Chengquan, 1991
Holotype: He Chengquan, 1991, pl.5, figs.38-39
Age: Middle Eocene
Location and stratigraphy: Wuqia County Baishibulake, Wulagen fm.
Description from He Chengquan, 1991, translated by Suning Hou, 07-01-2019
1961 Pentadinium laticinctum Gerlach, p.165, pl.26, figs.5,6; text-figs 6,7.
1976 Pentadinium laticinctum, Eaton, p. 279, 280, pl. 13, figs. 6-11.
Description:
Cyst cavate, compressed in the apex-antapex direction, outline nearly oval-shaped, apex and antapex smooth. Upper and lower cyst nearly equal. Thin outer wall, light color, with clear plates, the boundaries are marked by smooth ridges, the ridges can be curved, width varying, ridges near the apex and antapex are coarse, tapering toward the cingulum, tabulation 1', 5", 5'", 1’’’’. Among the precingular and postcingular plates, the No.1 and 5 plates near the sulcus are smaller; Plates surface weak granular-granular wrinkled. The outline of the inner body is nearly circular, the wall is slightly thicker than the outer wall, light yellowish green, and the surface is obvious granular - granular rod or short wrinkle; It is close to the outer wall except at the waist region. Cingulum at the equator, strongly convex outwards, annular from the polar vision, the convex width in the current specimen is 6-12μm. The sulcus is located in the ventral recess, may be vertically throughout the apex and antapex. Archeopyle precingular, P-type, formed by the shedding of the third precingular plate. Operculum free. Outer wall surface diameter 85μm, inner diameter of 75μm.
Comparison:
This subspecies is almost same as Pentadinium laticinctum in cyst shape, size and tabulation etc, but the outer surface particles are weaker and the surface of the inner body has developed ornamentation; The difference from P. laticinctum subsp. Granulatum is the the thin cyst wall and the granular-rod surface.
