Lithodinia jurassica ssp. reburrosa
Lithodinia jurassica subsp. reburrosa Quattrocchio and Sarjeant, 1992, p.72-73(al. 2-224 - 2-225), pl.1, figs.10-11; pl.7, figs.2-3; text-figs.3A-B.
Holotype: Quattrocchio and Sarjeant, 1992, pl.1, fig.10; text-figs.3A-B.
Age: Mid-Late Callovian-early mid Tithonian.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Quattrocchio and Sarjeant, 1992]:
Lithodinia jurassica subsp. reburrosa n. subsp.
(Plate 1, Figs. 10-11; Plate 7, Figs. 2-3; Text-fig. 3)
Derivatio nominis. L. reburrus: having bristling hair.
Diagnosis. Cyst proximate, rounded polyhedral. Paratabulation indicated by parasutural rows of short projections, whose bases may be coales-
cent along parasutures. On the lateral and dorsal surfaces, this linkage of bases is more continuous and the sutural processes are longer
(3 μm length) than on the ventral surface (1,5 μm length); gonal processes are consistently longer ( 4 μm length) and acuminate to bifurcate. Isolate, shorter processes with bifurcate tips are distributed on paraplate surfaces between the parasutures; they are aligned in some cases and have a length comparable to that of the sutural processes. Sulcus delimited laterally and antapically by discontinuous parasutural features and apically by the sulcal notch. Paratabulation: 4', 6", ?7c, 6"', 1 pv, 1 p, 1"". Paraplate 1"" is reduced. Archaeopyle apical, type 4A; principal archaeopyle suture zig-zag, with a deep sulcal notch and short but well-marked accessory sutures.
Illustrated specimens. Holotype: 2970/4: 15,4/106 (Plate 1, Fig. 10; Text-fig. 3); paratype: 2970/4: 19,7/105,5 (Plate 1, Fig. 11); others: SEM from horizon 2970 (Plate 7, figs. 2-3).
Lodgement. Palynological Laboratory, Universidal Nacional del Sur, Bahia -Blanca.
Dimensions. Holotype: length (without operculum) 43 μm, breadth 46 μm. Range: length (with operculum) 39-55 μm (5 specimens), (without
operculum) 30-50 μm (128 specimens); breadth 38-56 μm.
Horizon. 2970 level.
Locality. Puente del Arroyo Picún Leufú.
Remarks. The differences from Lithodinia jurassica jurassica are the reduction of paraplate 1"", the possible presence of an additional cingular paraplate (7c) and the presence of paraplate 1 pv. Since these differences are not major, separate specific status is considered inappropriate; however, because our assemblage did not include forms exhibiting the morphology of the typical subspecies, varietal status appeared equally inappropriate for a group of forms that are geographically isolated, as well as being morphologically distinct, from the type assemblage.
