Fromea elongata
Fromea elongata Beju, 1971
Now Andreedinium. Originally Fromea, subsequently Fromea?, thirdly Wallodinium, fourthly Palaeostomocystis, fifthly (and now) Andreedinium.
Nomencl. sr. synonym of Phallocysta minuta Prauss, 1989, since Prauss, 1989, included Fromea elongata in synonymy with Phallocysta minuta. Riding et al., 1991, considered the form described by Prauss, 1989, as "Phallocysta minuta" to have a distinctive morphology.
Accordingly, Lentin and Williams, 1993, proposed the name Phallocysta subconica for it.
Sr. homonym of Fromea elongata Jain and Millepied, 1975.
Tax. jr. synonym of Prismatocystis (now Wallodinium) cylindricum Habib, 1970, according to Duxbury, 1983. Feist-Burkhardt and Monteil in Feist-Burkhardt, 1990, retained Andreedinium elongatum as a separate species.
Stover and Evitt, 1978, considered this to be a provisionally accepted species of Fromea.
Holotype: Beju, 1971, pl.3, fig.7, text-fig.6A
Locus typicus: well at Plaviceni, Roumania
Stratum typicum: Bajocian-Oxfordian
Original diagnosis: Beju, 1971, p.289
Shell formed of two distinct parts: a subspherical or slightly elongated chamber prolonged by a subcylindrical or slightly conical neck, wide opened at its apical end. The transition from the chamber to the neck is gradual but always recognizable on the borders. Neck/chamber ratio 1/4 to 1/3, Shell wall relatively thin (0.5-1.5 Ám) levigate to finely punctate. Opening wide, subcircular with smooth or slightly undulated margins.
Dimensions: Overall length: 46-70 Ám; overall width 24-36 Ám.
Now Andreedinium. Originally Fromea, subsequently Fromea?, thirdly Wallodinium, fourthly Palaeostomocystis, fifthly (and now) Andreedinium.
