Nelsoniella oviformis

Nesoniella oviformis Cookson and Eisenack, 1982

Holotype: Cookson and Eisenack, 1982, pl.3, fig.2
Age: Senonian

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Cookson and Eisenack, 1982] (translated from German):

Nelsoniella oviformis n. sp.
Plate 3, Fig. 2

Type: The specimen shown on Plate 3, Fig. 2, and preserved in specimen Mad. 1.
Diagnosis: A Nelsoniella species with a roughly ovoid outline, i.e., significantly longer than wide, with an apical horn that gradually develops from the body but is still clearly visible, truncated and slightly indented at the tip. The surface is weakly to distinctly granulated in the apical region, but otherwise smooth. The archaeopyle is rounded trapezoidal, more strongly rounded towards the apical surface.
Dimensions: Approx. 104 x 76 μ.
Occurrence: Madura No. 1 Bore, at 968-988 ft.
Remarks: I classify the specimen shown in 1974 on Plate 20, Fig. 14, as belonging to the same species. It is smaller (approx. 74 x 60 μ) with a significantly shortened apical horn and therefore more pronouncedly ovoid. Its granulation in the apical region is more pronounced and coarser, and its archaeopyle is more rounded.
I consider these differences to be due to variability.
