Originally Galea (an illegitimate generic name), subsequently Baltisphaeridium, thirdly Areoligera.
Tax. jr. synonym of Hystrichosphaeridium (now Achomosphaera) alcicornu Eisenack, 1954, according to Sarjeant, 1983. This species was also transferred to Baltisphaeridium by Downie and Sarjeant, 1965.
